Option #3: Reflections

Analyst Reflection

What are your thoughts on this standard and how will you address it in your class? What will you use and what are some things you will do?

ISTE Standard 2.7 is Analyst. This standard means that educators understand and use data to drive instruction and support students in achieving their learning goals. This standard is critical because it provides educators with the resources to help guide their classrooms. I will address this standard by providing alternative ways that students can demonstrate competency in a skill. This includes having different options with formative and summative assessments. For student reflection, I suggest that students do blog posts, reflection journals, podcasts, or portfolios. For alternative assignments that would be used as a summative assessment, students could have the option to do projects, presentations, or other ways to show mastery besides an exam or written paper. Having different options and alternative assignments will best help students have the opportunity to master their learning.

Green Screen Reflection

What are your thoughts on this technology? Have you had any previous experience? Do you think students would enjoy this type of activity? Do you see a way that you can incorporate this into the class, if so how?

Green screen technology is a handy tool. I have mainly only seen the use of green screen technology on social media or in movies and tv shows. It is a great way to create different backgrounds and have various items that have never been seen. In the classroom, I have used it once for an assignment. It was an assignment where we talked about the weather and used the effect as we pretended to be meteorologists. Most students will enjoy a project that includes a green screen because they can be as creative as they want. For example, if the students did an assignment about the weather, they could use many different backgrounds to make it seem like they are out in snow, rain, or even a tornado. I could incorporate a green screen in the classroom for a history assignment. Students could use the green screen effect to choose a time and a place in history and explain events that happened or an influential person of that time. It would be exciting and a change that students would enjoy. There are so many ways to use a green screen. However, using it with older students for individual assignments would be better. With younger students, a green screen should be used as a small group activity run by the teacher or with a para for help. The teacher could still do the same assignments with history or science. It will be fun for all students and the teachers.
