Collaborator Reflection

What concerns do you as an educator have about working more collaboratively? For your students?

Sometimes getting students to engage in activities takes a lot of work. Especially if they are not interested in the topic. Group work or collaboration can be a fun and exciting way to get students to engage in the classroom. There are a lot of positives as well. For example, collaboration helps build social skills and allows students to see other people's points of view. However, there are some downsides. Some students think it is time to have fun and be social with their friends and classmates. Some students might even be uncomfortable working with other people. There are some negatives when having students collaborate. My goal once I am done with this program is to teach Kindergarten. My main concern with collaboration for my students is that it will be a brand-new experience. Most students will have not been around other students their age, and their social skills are just developing. It will be my job to help show the students the positives of collaboration and to help guide them to like working with others.
As an educator, I am concerned about collaboration with other educators because not everyone can agree on one thing. While that is the goal, it is a little unrealistic. So it will be more about compromise regarding other educators. I will be excited to hear other people's opinions, especially from educators who have been in the classroom for a long time. It will be a learning experience but exciting nonetheless.
